CCCC Car Show at The Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (2024-08-03)
No surprise, it was another hot day at this car show. I’m not sure what the real temperature was but it felt like about 95 degrees, and we were on the concrete adjacent to the runway. There was almost no breeze and no clouds. And unlike an event a few years ago there was no smoke from the nearby fires.
This show always brings out an interesting group of cars. All shows are different but some of the folks on this day are regulars. It seemed like fewer cars than usual, but a couple of spectators commented that the heat probably discourages some. There were six Corvairs in attendance. There were some communications glitches but three of the cars, Rick’s Spyder, Rick’s wagon with Charlie driving, Ken’s car, were grouped together. And three others, Mike’s Corsa, Jim’s 8-window Greenbriar and John’s Monza, complete with window mounted evaporative air conditioner, were in sight of each other. There were several comments like: “there are some other Corvairs over there, do you know them?” I also saw Chris walking about and a guy I worked with years ago stopped by and we caught up. He is a Plymouth guy and steered me to at least two salvage Corvairs, one of which contributed parts to the red car. I don’t know that any of us won anything and I contributed to the 50-50 for someone else, but it was a good show.
